Individual Award Categories

1. Young Business Executive (aged 18 – 35)*

The Young Business Executive award recognises an inspirational young professional aged between 18-35 years who has built a successful career with an organisation.  To enter into this award the individual must have been employed by their current employer for a minimum of 12 months.

2. Business Leader (aged 36+)*

The Business Leader award recognises the positive contribution made to business by business people and professionals. The award recognises those who demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial spirit, strategic business direction and innovative ideas, whilst providing inspiration to a new generation of upcoming business leaders. Individuals entering into this category can be self-employed or employed by a business

3. Employee of the Year

This Award recognises an inspirational employee in your business that, through their own commitment and passion, has made a difference in your workplace.

4. Apprentice/Trainee of the Year

This Award recognises those apprentices and trainees who have shown excellent progress in their training, their approach to the job and their performance. You can nominate a staff member who is excelling and surpassing your expectations.

Business Award Categories

5. Excellence in Small Business* ( employing less than 20 employees) 

The Excellence in Small Business award recognises a business, employing less than 20 that has attained significant growth and is able to demonstrate the specific strategies and processes implemented to achieve sustainable growth in the previous 24 months.

6. Excellence in Business* (employing more than 20 employees)

The Excellence in Business award recognises a business that has attained significant growth and is able to demonstrate the specific strategies and processes implemented to achieve sustainable growth over the previous 24 months.

7. Excellence in Innovation*

The Excellence in Innovation award recognises businesses that have made significant contributions to their industry through the introduction or improvement of an idea, method, technology, process or application.

8. Excellence in Sustainability*

(Where sustainability is your core business, you must enter this category based on sustainable initiatives and projects within your business, not related to your core offering)

The Excellence in Sustainability award recognises businesses that are working to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment and/or provide products and services that have positive environmental outcomes.

9. Employer of Choice*

The Employer of Choice award recognises organisations that put in place strategies and initiatives to create stimulating and supportive workplace environments for their employees. These strategies or initiatives must have a positive impact on both employees and the organisation as a whole.

10. Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety Culture*

a) Small business (less than 20 employees or full time equivalent)  

b) Large business (20 or more employees or full time equivalent)

This Award recognises demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of workplace health and safety outcomes through the creation and continuation of an outstanding work safety culture. An outstanding safety culture is created through leadership, workforce engagement and training; and reinforced across the organisation using the following:
• Robust safety systems with cooperation and collaboration at all stages of the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting
• Demonstrated behaviour and workforce engagement
• Symbols such as recognition programs, awareness campaigns and risk management
Excellence in safety culture must be demonstrated at all levels of the organisation, from senior management’s commitment to health and safety, to employees’ communication and ownership of responsibility.

11. Outstanding New Business (in operation less than 2 years as at July 1 2016)

Nominate a new business in Deniliquin that has been in operation less than 2 years. Those nominated will be visited by a mystery shopper. Feedback from customers will be used to determine the winner.

12. Excellence in Customer Service

Nominate a business that consistently provides excellent customer service.

This award is determined by both customers and mystery shopping visits and is open to all businesses in the Deniliquin region. This award sets apart the leaders in Customer Service and promotes businesses which look after their customers and undertake training of their staff in Customer Service.

Deniliquin Business of the Year 2017

This award takes into account all business award categories and is awarded to a business considered an “all-rounder” with superior performance in all aspects. Please note that entrants cannot directly nominate for this award. The winner of this award is selected from all the Business Excellence category winners.
